bmi commences EFB Pilot Trial with AMT’s Flightman™ Electronic Flight Bag Software
AMT has announced the commencement of the Pilot Trial phase of its Electronic Flight Bag project with bmi, London Heathrow’s second largest airline. The pilot trial will connect a subset of bmi’s fleet to its existing ground-based enterprise systems, using Aircraft Management Technologies’ Flightman™ Electronic Flight Bag Software solution prior to implementation across its entire fleet.
The system which includes eJourney Log, Flight Plan, Weight & Balance, Performance Calculations, eTechlog, Large Content Management, will allow pilots to retrieve all pre-flight data directly from the aircraft, and send post-flight data directly from the aircraft to bmi’s ground systems.
By using a Class I Panasonic Toughbook, pilots will be able to exchange data from the cockpit via GPRS and 3G cellular communications, thus streamlining processes in both Flight Operations and Maintenance.
At the commencement of the pilot trial, Alex Grant, Chief Operations Officer, bmi commented “AMT’s Lean process analysis workshop assisted us in understanding how the use of EFB technologies and the application of Lean principles can transform business processes. This has enabled us to identify a potentially compelling return on investment and dramatic cost savings which can significantly improve operational performance. I believe this groundwork will lead us to a successful implementation trial whereby we will be able to show real live savings.”
Commenting on the completed Lean process analysis workshop report, Aidan Gallagher, Chairman of AMT “Our main philosophy at these workshops is to apply Lean across various existing processes such as Flight Operations, Maintenance, Data Distribution and Fuel Management. We have worked very closely with bmi to define a value proposition for an EFB solution and I believe this pilot trial will prove our target savings”.
